After the conference, I took the train from Glasgow, Scotland to London, England. It was a five hour journey so I had some time to be alone with my thoughts. My mind was swirling from the conversations, lectures and discussions that happened at the conference. The Global food crisis. Human rights violations. Escalating violence and genocide. Global economic downturn.
I have been struggling with theses issues and what my role should be in trying to attack them. They are so overwhelming and complex and at times I don't know where to start. I have been debating with myself about making some drastic changes to the itinerary in 2009 so I can better understand these issues. I have enjoyed my experience on Singh Around the World but I want to go deeper on the service side. It has been hard to balance the two themes of the trip- exploring my worldlist and service. I feel I have short changed myself in a few areas. I will write more as I finalize my plans for the new direction I want to take for the last few months of the journey in 2009.
Back to the journey. The reason I went to London was to see a good friend, Marie Narsoomamode. I met her in the year 2000 through my friend, Rob May. Since much of my travels in Europe have used London as a stopping point, we have been able to keep in touch. I have been to London so many times that I am quite over the tourist thing. London for me is hanging out with friends.
I made it over to Marie's flat and met her new roommate, Sarah and Sarah's boyfriend. The EuroCup matches were on TV so we went to a local pub and watched Spain beat Italy in penalty kicks. From there we went to get Indian food. London is not known for its food but it's Indian food selection is only second to India and my mom. I guess that would make it third and not second.
The next day was a down day as Marie had to work so I was able to get caught up on errands. I, also, did an interview with the Lansing State Journal. The story ran as a front page feature in yesterday's paper. Here is a link to the article. The next day I left for the EuroCup matches in Austria.
