We had finished our trip to Romania and were trying to figure out the cheapest way to get to the Monaco Grand Prix. It ended up being cheaper to flying a low cost Hungarian Airlines to either Paris or Rome and then taking the train to the French Riviera. We decided on heading to Rome, though it was a longer train ride, because we had friends that were going to be in Rome during the same time.
My friends, Shawn and Brent Chittenden, were taking their mom, Gail, to Italy. Along with Gail came our other friend, Kim Field. My friend, Brent Chittenden, actually had planned on coming on the trip around the world with me and Patrick. Finances unfortunately became his downfall last year when he had to bow out on the journey.
I was glad that we had the opportunity to hit Rome and to see them, especially Brent. Though Brent never pulled the trigger on the trip, he was one of my inspirations to head on the trip. Each conversation we had over the three years were a motivation for my journey.

We showed up to Rome and found ourselves a hotel and then went to find the Chittenden Family and Kim Field. Not surprisingly, they were situated at an Irish pub waiting for us to show up in town. We had only one night together but it was a good night. The same jokes and the same stories were told. As always, Mrs. Chitteden and Kim Field put up with a lot from us boys. We hit a few bars and then they had to head home because they needed to catch their flights back to the States the next day.
I had been to Rome before but Patrick hadn't been at all. We tried to see the sites before our night train but then the rains cames. At least we got a few pictures in front of the Colosseum, before the weather became unbearable.
